Director - Nesbitt Memorial Library

The Nesbitt Memorial Library Board of Trustees is seeking a new Director for the City of Columbus Public Library in Columbus, Texas. The library serves a population of over 5,770 people through a main library. There are three full-time and 2 part-time employees. The annual budget for the library is approximately $250,000. Columbus is centrally located 70 miles west of Houston, 90 miles south of Austin and 125 miles east of San Antonio. Columbus is a relaxing small town with a rich and wild history dating back to the original settlers of Stephen F. Austin’s colony. The area is full of Southern charm, and has a long list of fun and interesting things to see and do.

The Director is responsible for the overall daily operation and management of the city library. She/he has the duties of preparing and overseeing the budget; strategic planning; maintaining public and government relations; ensuring compliance with laws; fundraising; and hiring, motivating, and dismissing staff. The Director reports to the Board of Trustees which oversees the library’s mission, goals, and policies. The position requires a Master’s Degree in Information/Library Science OR a college degree with at least five years of progressive library leadership. Salary starts at $50,000. Public Works Superintendent

The City of Columbus is seeking a hands-on superintendent to oversee the public works and parks departments.  The Public Works Superintendent is responsible for the supervision of two departments consisting of five (5) laborers and one (1) foreman. This position also oversees the City Recycle Center and the center's part-time attendant.  The superintendent deals directly with the public and their concerns regarding street conditions, trees, driveways, and City parks.  The superintendent is also responsible for ordering common supplies used by all City departments along with the submission of invoices to accounts payable.  The superintendent also submits budget requests, and works closely with the Finance Director regarding long-term capital planning.

Public Works Laborer

The City of Columbus is seeking a public works laborer.  Responsibilities include maintenance of public streets, buildings and facilities throughout the City.  Must be knowledgeable in minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing repair, operation of heavy equipment to repair streets and remove debris.  This is a hands-on labor intensive position vital to the successful operation of the City.
