Planning & Zoning Commission   (top of page)

The Planning & Zoning Commission was created by ordinance in 1989.

Appointments are made by the Mayor with three-fourths majority approval of Council. Members serve staggered three-year terms beginning on December 31. The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected by the Commission and the City Secretary acts as secretary.

Meetings are scheduled for 6:30pm the third Tuesday each month.  All meetings of the Commission comply with the Open Meetings Act. Meeting notices are posted at City Hall at least 72-hours prior to meetings.

The Board of Adjustment was created by ordinance in 1999 to act in a quasi-judicial capacity.

Nominations are made by the Mayor with confirmation of Council. Members serve two-year terms. The Chairperson and Associate Chairperson are elected by the Board for a one-year term. Four members of the Board are required for the transaction of business.

Meetings are scheduled for 6:30pm the second Tuesday each month.  All meetings of the Board comply with the Open Meetings Act. Meeting notices are posted at City Hall at least 72-hours prior to meetings.

Electrical Board                           (top of page)

The Electrical Board was created by ordinance in 1989.

Appointments are made by the Mayor with approval of Council at any regular Council meeting date between the Mayor’s election and June 30 of the same year. Members serve two-year terms. The Chairman is elected by the Board and the Secretary is appointed by the Chairman.

Meetings are held quarterly on the first Monday night of January, April, July and October.  All meetings of the Electrical Board comply with the Open Meetings Act. Meeting notices are posted at City Hall at least 72-hours prior to meetings.

The CCIDC was created by incorporation in 1995.

Nominations are made by the Mayor with confirmation of Council. Members serve two-year terms. The Officers are elected by the Board for a one-year term each November. Four members of the Board are required for the transaction of business.

Meetings are scheduled for 5:30pm the third Monday each month.  The Annual Meeting is held on the third Monday of November.  All meetings of the Board comply with the Open Meetings Act. Meeting notices are posted at City Hall at least 72-hours prior to meetings.

The Library Board was created by ordinance in 1989 and amended in 1997.

Appointments are made by City Council with recommendations from the Library Board. Members serve 42-month terms and may not succeed themselves. Officers are chosen by majority vote of the Board and serve one-year terms.

Meetings are held once each month. Effective May 14, 2001, meetings are scheduled for 5:30pm the second Thursday each month.  All meetings of the Board comply with the Open Meetings Act. Meeting notices are posted at City Hall at least 72-hours prior to meetings.

Convention & Visitor's Bureau  (top of page)

The Convention & Visitor's Bureau was created to administer the expenditure of Hotel Occupancy Taxes collected by the City of Columbus.  The City has a formal contract with the C&VB for that purpose and approves their annual budget.

Meetings are held once each month at the Stafford Opera House.  Meetings are scheduled for noon the third Wednesday each month.
